Tales of Government Abuses and Government Waste

Highway 231 Speed Trap Gauntlet
I was disgusted, repulsed, and appalled by the recently released information on the revenues being collected from the new camera system which is now being used to rip off travelers as they navigate through Campbellton. It appears this latest revenue generating program will reap around $200,000 per year from the pockets of tourist trying to make it to the Florida beaches.
They stated they might use this new income being realized by the city of Campbellton to create a city police force. Why not put in another light and double the revenues?

  1. My name is Eric Toole. I live at 2349 Parrish Street Campbellton, FL. My phone number is 850-263-8208. I hope you will respond to my comments in your paper. YOu can even publish them, I don't care. Mr. Riley, as a member of the Campbellton Volunteer Fire Dept for over 15 years, I am glad to see the cameras put on the light here in town. As of now, the only tickets issued are for running the red light. You state that the light should be a "blinking" light, I disagree. Have you ever tried to cross 231 on HWY 2 without a light to stop the traffic on 231? I have. It is almost impossible. Have you ever cleaned up an accident in that intersection? I have. I have had the pleasure of seeing some of the videos of the traffic running that light. Would you believe that sometimes it is run at speeds of over 70 MPH? They do. Please don't blame the Town for trying to slow people down. If you, or anybody else for that matter, don't wish to receive a ticket for running the red light in Campbellton, then STOP when it turns red!!!
